Illustrations and Artists
Many noted illustrators got their start creating art for song sheet covers. Below is Norman Rockwell’s cover of George M. Cohan’s “Over There.” Alfred Concanen was one of the most famous lithographers in the Victorian era. He came from a family of artists in Galway, Ireland.
Albert Barbelle (1887 – 1957)
Sheet music covers by Barbelle began appearing in 1912 and continued until 1956. A trained traditional and commercial artist, Barbelle was fashion and style conscious and kept his artwork contemporary as these concepts evolved.
