World War I Paper Shortage (1917 - 1919)

During the World War I years of 1917 to 1919, the U. S. Government requested that industries using consumable products begin to conserve these materials -- including paper goods. A smaller 7” x 10” sheet music format was introduced by some publishers, shrinking the cover art and even condensing multiple pages of music.
