Historical Notes
E. W. Mackney (1825-1909), one of Britain's most famous nineteenth-century minstrel performers, was billed as "the original black-face comedian" at the newly opened Weston's Hall in 1860. He also compiled the earliest known English banjo tutor, published about 1863, and his autobiography, The Life and Reminiscences of E. W. Mackney, Ethopian Entertainer, was published in 1897.
