Historical Notes

Original Civil War penny broadside by Magnus featuring the popular Stephen Foster song, "That's What's the Matter". Five stanzas and chorus. References to the Monitor, Merrimac, and Beauregard, but no other CS generals, indicates a publication date of March-July 1862. Lined reverse, as most Magnus ballads are.
